As we gather news from whatever source you may use today, one thing seems to be a common denominator, that is we are living in some very tumultuous times. In gathering information as to what is happening in our world today we observe that the pundits ask the question why considerably many times and quite frankly we never really get an answer as to why. That is simply because they never accept the true answer which is the fallen condition of man (sin) and we will be seeing even more of this as the day of our Lord Jesus Christ draws near.
In 2Timothy chapter 3 verses 1-5, the scriptures declare that in the end times (last days) there will be times of difficulty. We will see that people will become lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Is this not what we see taking place in our nation today? In fact, in observing the presidential race in our country taking place as we speak, some of the above mentioned characteristics are evident even in our politics. Our culture today has even glamourized this type of mentality. This should not catch us of guard for we have been warned through scriptures that we would be experiencing such things and our Timothy’s must be people that can discern these times in which we are living. Scriptures warn us that this Godlessness will even try to creep into the church by having a form of godliness yet denying its power.
The power of God through the work of the Holy Spirit is to eradicate all ungodliness. We want to see our Timothy’s develop the moral compass of the Holy Spirit which will lead them to flee from such people and our help and direction is quite crucial in this endeavor. We are endowed with a great advantage in that we have been given the peace that surpasses all understanding in Christ Jesus. Even as the world today has glamourized Godlessness and insists on having the answer to life’s questions, we know that there is no peace for without Christ it is impossible. Therefore we must continue to guide our up and coming leadership to continue to judge (discern) the times by allowing the Holy Spirit to direct them in what has already been striving with their spirits. The peace given to them by Jesus makes them aware of the inconsistencies of this world. It is our responsibility to affirm them in the leading that the Holy Spirit has rendered in their lives. We must continue to encourage our Timothy’s more than ever before because the times ahead will present challenges to our faith in unprecedented forms, however we can look forward to the great things God will do in our midst for we are fully that for Him nothing is impossible!
